Twitter outage: Elon Musk says significant backend server changes behind the reason
Twitter users have reported a massive global outage with many unable to access the website and its features for hours.
According to downdetector.com, which tracks site traffic, the website became unavailable shortly before midnight GMT (11 am Thursday AEDT, 7 pm Wednesday EST), with outages most commonly reported on the website rather than the app. For some users, timelines did not refresh and many accounts were shown as non-existent.
Within an hour, the website had recorded more than 10,000 user reports of problems accessing Twitter.
Musk said that “significant backend server architecture changes” have been rolled out.
“Twitter should feel faster,” he said in a tweet.

The microblogging platform was down for several hours in November too as Musk took over.
