COVID-19: South Western Railway cancels 226 trains on Sunday

Bengaluru, March 21 (IANS) The South Western Railway (SWR) zone has cancelled 226 trains on Sunday in view of the people’s curfew amid COVID-19 outbreak, an official said on Saturday.

“In connection with janta (people’s) curfew for COVID-19 alert on Sunday, all mail, express and intercity trains, including premium trains, 92 trains, originating between 4 a.m. and 10 p.m. on Sunday from SWR are cancelled,” told a SWR spokesperson to IANS.

Similarly, all passenger trains, 134, originating from the railway zone between 12 a.m. and 10 p.m. on Sunday are also cancelled.

“Trains which commence journey prior to the above timelines will run up to the destination, ” the spokesperson added.

Including the 92 mail, express and intercity trains and 134 passenger trains, SWR has cancelled a total of 226 trains on Sunday.

On Saturday, Karnataka confirmed five new Coronavirus positive cases, lifting the total to 20.
