Amazon Plans To Enter Food Delivery Service In India

The E-Commerce Giant Amazon is To Take On Zomato and Swiggy In Food Delivery Service.

Seattle based e-commerce giant Amazon is planning to enter into the growing Indian food delivery services and to compete with Swiggy, and Zomato.

According to a report, Amazon Inc is working with local partner Catamaran. It is a company founded by IT industrialist Narayana Murthi who is also the founder of Infosys. The report also tells that they already have started the hirings for this new service. The delivery service would begin in September this year looking towards that the festive season in India. The startups Swiggy, and Zomato currently dominate the Indian food delivery market. Looking toward the increasing market of food delivery Uber Technologies launched their food delivery app Ubereats in 2017. But, because of the congested market, Ubereats could not maintain their growth.

According to a report by Business Standard, Amazon is in talks with UberEats to buy it. Although Amazon and Ubereats both did not respond to that rumor. Uber rival local start-up Ola also launched its food delivery service. It bought Foodpanda in 2017.

According to the RedSeer Consulting research firm, the online food delivery orders rose 176 % in 2018, and it becomes possible due to the rising middle class in India.
