We’re behind Real but eight games are still left, says Setien

Barcelona, June 22 (IANS) Barcelona manager Quique Setien feels they are still in the title hunt despite being behind Real Madrid in the Spanish LaLiga table.

Just head-to-head record separates the two Clasico rivals as both Real and Barcelona have accumulated 65 points from 30 matches so far in the season.

Speaking ahead of Barca’s crucial clash against Athletic Club, Setien stated both the teams cannot afford to slip-up any futher as the title race is expected to go right down to the wire.

“It’s true that goal difference puts us below. But we still have the same amount of points. They (Real Madrid) can’t make any mistakes either,” Setien said during pre-match press conference, as per goal.com.

“Many leagues have been resolved in the last few games. Things are still the same.

“We’re behind, but there are eight games left and we have the same idea of winning every game and being there until the last one.

“I knew we had to win almost everything, just like them,” he added.

Setien was also quizzed about his views regarding two crucial VAR calls that were made during Real Madrid’s 2-1 win over Real Sociedad recently.

Adan Januzaj’s goal, which would have been the equaliser, was ruled out for obstructing the goalkeeper while Karim Benzema’s goal was awarded despite the Frenchman appearing to have handled the ball.

“I’m focusing on us. We have footballing problems, but I’m very happy with a lot of the things we’re doing,” Setien said.

“We’ve won two and drawn one. We’ve scored six goals and we haven’t conceded a single one. VAR is a tool we have that can make us better.

“But we must use it and have a clearer vision of reality. It is fair to ask why some actions are reviewed and others are not.

“It can lead to the idea that it is not being used well,” he added.
