Bengaluru, March 20 (IANS) City police on Friday unearthed two fake hand sanitizer manufacturing rackets, arrested two persons, and seized 8,500 bottles filled with spurious sanitisers with a market value of Rs 56 lakh, an official said on Friday.

“We have arrested two persons who were manufacturing fake hand sanitisers and scrubbers using fake ingredients,” Kuldeep Jain, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Central Crime Branch, told IANS.

Chamarajpet police arrested Raju, 43, under Section 420 of IPC and 18 (C) of Drugs and Cosmetics Act while V.V. Puram police arrested Chandan, 64, also under same sections for the fake products, trying to cash in on the coronavirus panic.

“Just two drops of the colouring agent is used to produce 50 litres of fake hand sanitisers, which was then packed in 500 ml bottles and sold at Rs 550 apiece,” said Jain.

According to Jain, both the accused were running fake companies without requisite permits, which the drug controller confirmed.
