Tokyo Olympics: Lovlina Borgohain assures India of a medal in boxing after beats former world champion
India’s Lovlina Borgohain assured another medal for India after beating former world champion Chinese Taipei Chen Nien-Chin in the quarter-final on Friday.
Lovlina defeated Chinese Taipei Chen Nien-Chin by a 4-1 split decision in the quarter-final.
After winning this match, Lovlina Borgohain will face the 2019 World Champion and top seed Turkey’s Busenaz Surmeneli in the semi-final on August 4.
Earlier, she had defeated Germany’s Nadine Apetz by 3-2 to reach the quarterfinals.
Lovlina, the first female boxer to represent India from Assam, won the 2018 World Championships bronze medal and followed it up with another bronze in 2019. She warmed up to the Tokyo Olympics winning a bronze medal in the Asian Championships in Dubai in May.
