Telangana to organise Narasimha Rao’s birth centenary celebrations
Hyderabad, June 17 (IANS) The Telangana government on Wednesday announced that it would organise former Prime Minister P.V. Narasimha Rao’s birth centenary celebrations.
Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao said the celebrations would be held in a befitting way for one year beginning from June 28, which is Narasimha Rao’s birth anniversary.
KCR, as the Chief Minister is popularly known, said that Narasimha Rao rendered yeoman service as the Prime Minister, freedom fighter, educationist, and literary figure.
“A man with such extraordinary qualities hailed from Telangana is a moment of pride for the state. To recollect, recall the great services rendered by P.V. in various fields, it is decided to celebrate his centenary celebrations on a grand scale,” the CM said.
KCR appointed a committee under the leadership of Member of Parliament Dr K Keshav Rao. The government’s Chief Advisor Rajiv Sharma, the former Prime Minister’s son P.V. Prabhakar Rao, daughter Vani Devi, ministers from Karimnagar, E. Rajender, K T Rama Rao, Official Language Commission Chairman Devulapalli Prabhakar Rao, Central Sahitya Academy awardee and noted writer Ampasayya Naveen will be members of the committee.
The CM asked Keshav Rao to include 6 to 7 members more in the committee. The first meeting of the committee will be held on Thursday.
KCR asked the committee to get in touch with those who had interacted with P.V., people who have an affinity with him, his family members, his well-wishers and his fans and hold discussions with them to finalise the centenary celebrations plan with them.
