Table Tennis player Sharath Kamal to be honored by Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award

Table tennis legend Achanta Sharath Kamal will receive the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award from President Droupadi Murmu on November 30.

‘Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award’ is given for the spectacular and most outstanding performance in the field of sports by a sportsperson over the period of the previous four years.

Taking to Twitter Sharath Kamal wrote a long note which is the caption, “Honoured to be conferred the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award. Thank you to everyone sending in their good wishes and their support! (sic).”

As per a press release from the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, the national sports awards selection committee has recommended 25 sportspersons for this year’s Arjuna Awards. Badminton players Lakshya Sen and HS Prannoy, world champion boxer Nikhat Zareen, boxer Amit Panghal, triple jumper Eldhose Paul, and steeplechaser Avinash Sable are all on the list.

India cricket team captain Rohit Sharma’s childhood mentor Dinesh Lad has been nominated for Dronacharya Award, honoring notable coaches, in the lifetime category.

Wrestler Bajrang Punia’s coach Sujit Mann, boxing coach Mohammad Ali Qamar, archery coach Jiwanjot Singh Teja and rifle coach Suma Shirur (para shooting) have been nominated for the Dronacharya Award in the regular category.

All awardees will be feted by the President of India at a specially organized function at the Rashtrapati Bhavan.
