Shahid Kapoor and Mrunal Thakur Starrer Jersey release postponed amid rising Covid-19 cases

The release date of Shahid Kapoor’s much-awaited upcoming movie ‘Jersey’ has been postponed amid the rising of Omicron cases in the country.

The sports drama which was earlier slated to hit the screens on December 31, 2021, has now been pushed. The makers will announce the new release date of the movie very soon.

Written and directed by Gowtam Tinnanuri, Shahid Kapoor’s ‘Jersey’ is the remake of the 2019 Telugu film of the same title which featured Nani and Shraddha Srinath playing the lead roles. The film was originally slated to release in theatres on August 28, 2020, but got delayed due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic in the country.

Film Trade Analyst Taran Adarsh too, confirmed the same on Twitter, “#Xclusiv… #BreakingNews… #Jersey POSTPONED… WON’T RELEASE ON 31 DEC… New date will be announced shortly… Industry talk that #Jersey will be Direct-to-OTT release is FALSE (sic).”

The movie also marks Shahid Kapoor and Mrunal Thakur’s first on-screen performance together.

The trailer of ‘Jersey’ shared a glimpse into the life of a former cricketer whose desire to fulfill his son’s wish of having a jersey makes him cross boundaries. Meanwhile, other than Shahid Kapoor and Mrunal Thakur, the movie also features Pankaj Kapur in a pivotal role.
