#RippedJeansTwitter Trends After Uttarakhand Chief Minister Tirath Singh Rawat’s Comments

After making controversial remarks about women wearing ripped jeans by Uttarakhand Chief Minister, netizens make it trending with #RippedJeans.

According to the report, Tirath Singh Rawat has drawn backlash for saying that women wear ripped jeans set a ‘bad example for society and lead to substance abuse.

Mr. Rawat made the comments on Tuesday at a workshop organized by the Uttarakhand State Commission for Protection of Child Rights in Dehradun.

Mr. Rawat said that he was on a flight when he came across a woman, accompanied by two children, wearing ripped jeans. The woman told him that she runs an NGO.

The chief minister said he was concerned about the example she was setting for society.

“If this kind of woman goes out in the society to meet people and solve their problems, what kind of message are we giving out to society, to our kids?” the Uttarakhand Chief Minister said.

The chief minister said these days youngsters go to the market to buy ripped jeans. If they can’t find one, then they cut their jeans using scissors.

Soon after his comments, it went viral on Twitter with #RippedJeans this morning. Some netizens have been explained how his comments were wrong.

Actor Gul Panag has been joined the trend too. Taking her official Twitter to handle she shared a selfie which shows her in distressed jeans. She wrote, “Takes out ripped jeans.”

Rajya Sabha MP and Shiv Sena leader Priyanka Chaturvedi wrote: “The country’s ‘sanskriti’ & ‘sanskaar’ are impacted by men who sit and judge women and their choices.”
