R.G. Kar Medical college closed after two patients test corona positive
Kolkata, April 12 (IANS) In a replay of the scare at the NRS Medical College Hospital, the male medicine ward of the R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital here has been closed for 72 hours after two patients tested positive for the coronavirus infection, one of them passing away before the test results were available, an official said on Sunday.
In an emergency meeting, the hospital authorities decided to fumigate the entire ward after the two patients were on Saturday detected with the deadly disease, which has caused a global havoc.
One of the two patients, however, died before the test results reached the hospital.
The other patient has been shifted to Infectious Diseases Hospital, Beliaghata.
“The ward will be fumigated for two days, ” said a senior hospital official.
Twenty two doctors, nurses and health workers involved in the treatment of the two patients have been quarantined. Their swab samples have been sent for testing.
Twelve patients who were admitted in the ward when the duo was under treatment there have beenA shifted to the isolation ward and kept under close observation.
Earlier, 79 doctors, nurses and other health workers of NRS were put on quarantine after the test results of a young patient who died in the male medicine ward detected him Coronavirus positive.
Swab samples of at least 70 of the health workers in NRS have been found to be negative for the coronavirus infection. The test results of the remaining nine are awaited.
