Ponniyin Selvan’s first song ‘Kaveri Se Milne’ released in five languages

The first song from Mani Ratnam’s magnum opus ‘Ponniyin Selvan: Part One’, ‘Kaveri Se Milne’, was released on Sunday.

AR Rahman, Swagat Rathod, and Pooja Tiwari have composed and sung the song.

The song has been released in five languages and is titled ‘Kaveri Se Milne’ in Hindi, ‘Ponge Nadhi’ in Telugu, and ‘Ponni Nadhi’ in Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam. Mehboob has written the Hindi lyrics. The Tamil version of the song has been sung by A. R. Rahman and Bamba Bakya with lyrics by Ilango Krishnan.

The video shows glimpses of the landscape of the Chola Empire, on which the film is set. There are also stills and scenes showing Karthi’s character Vallavaraiyan Vandiyadevan traveling by horse across the Chola countryside.

Sharing the Tamil version of the song on Twitter, the actor wrote, “When I heard this song for the very first time, I felt as if I was riding into the Chola Kingdom! Pure magic! Join me in this journey (sic).”

Directed by Mani Ratnam, Ponniyin Selvan: Part 1 has a stellar cast including Vikram, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Trisha, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Sarath Kumar, Vikram Prabhu, Sobhita Dhulipala, Jayaram, Prabhu, Parthiban, and Prakash Raj.

‘Ponniyin Selvan’ is based on a historical fiction novel of the same name, written by author Kalki Krishnamurthy. The novel tells the story of Rajaraja Chola I of the Chola dynasty.

The first part of the film is set to hit the big screens on September 30 this year in five languages – Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, and Hindi.
