Noted Bengali poet Shankha Ghosh passes away after testing covid-19 in Kolkata

Noted Bengali poet Shankha Ghosh passed away on Wednesday morning, days after testing positive for Covid-19.

Shankha Ghosh, at the time of his death, was aged 89. After he tested positive for coronavirus disease on April 14 (Wednesday). He was in home isolation.

Sankha Ghosh belonged to the era of Bengali poets after Jibanananda Das. Ghosh had also spent several years teaching at Delhi University, University of Iowa, and Visva Bharati.

Sankha Ghosh received the Sahitya Akademi Award in 1977 for Babar-er Prarthana. He was honored with a second Sahitya Akademi Award in 1999. In 2011, Sankha Ghosh was conferred with the Padma Bhushan.
