NGO Goonj reaches out to 41,300 families with food, ration

New Delhi, May 10 (IANS) Non-profit organisation Goonj has reached out to 41,300 needy and underprivileged families with and 99,000 ready-to-eat meals and 6 lakh kilogram of ration amid the nationwide lockdown.

In a statement, it said it has also provided other essentials through ration kits and community kitchens. The organisation has also supported 15 community kitchens with 38,000 kg of ration for over 1.27 lakh meals.

The NGO has started relief work with over 150 organisations in 20 states and Union territories, it said.

In view of the pandemic and the need for hygiene, it has also made 1.21 lakh masks and over 45,000 cloth sanitary pads.

Under its long-term plans, the Delhi-based organisation plans to provide livelihood support to 10,000 families in villages across the country.

Through its ‘VAAPSI’ initiative, it would target 10,000 families in terms of livelihood support in the villages.
