National Voters Day 2021: PM Modi appreciates Election Commission on 11th National Voters Day

The 11th National Voters Day is being celebrated by the Election Commission. The day is celebrated on January 25 every year since 2011.

According to the government, over 10 lakh locations across the country that include polling stations, subdivisions, district headquarters celebrate this day to mark the foundation day of the Election Commission of India, which was founded on January 25, 1950.

The National Voters Day ceremony is aimed at increasing voter enrolment, with a special focus on new voters. The celebrations include felicitating new voters and handing them their Elector Photo Identity Cards.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Monday that the National Voters Day was an occasion to appreciate the remarkable contribution of the Election Commission to strengthen the country’s democratic fabric and ensure smooth conduct of elections.

Taking to Twitter, PM Modi wrote, “National Voters Day is an occasion to appreciate the remarkable contribution of the EC to strengthen our democratic fabric and ensure smooth conduct of elections. This is also a day to spread awareness on the need of ensuring voter registration, particularly among the youth.”

This year’s theme is “Making Our Voters Empowered, Vigilant, Safe and Informed”. One focus this year is highlighting the EC’s feat of running elections safely during the pandemic. This celebration will witness President Ram Nath Kovind as the chief guest of the national celebration at the Election Commission of India.

“During the event, the Honourable President of India will confer the National Awards for the year 2020-21 and launch ECI’s Web Radio:‘Hello Voters’.
