Marc Gasol sets up first 3×3 professional basketball team in Spain
Madrid, June 26 (IANS) FIBA Basketball World Cup winner Marc Gasol has announced that his club of Girona Basket will found the first 3×3 professional team in Spain.
The team will be managed by Spain 3×3 national team coach Jaume Comas, featuring some familiar faces such as Nacho Martin, Alex Llorca, Xavi Guirao and Sergi Pino, reports Xinhua news agency.
The announcement was made at a press conference on Thursday in Girona attended by Martin, Llorca and Pino.
“We are delighted to be part of this, and we have been waiting for this moment for a long time,” Martin said. “It’s really attractive for the spectators and this is just the beginning for us as we want to go step by step. Our goal is to reach a World Tour Masters.”
Martin won silver for Spain at the 3×3 event of the 2015 European Games and reached semifinals of the FIBA 3×3 Europe Cup last year.
