Mani Ratnam’s ‘Ponniyin Selvan’ becomes the first Tamil film to be released in IMAX

Mani Ratnam’s one of the highly-anticipated historical period dramas, ‘Ponniyin Selvan’ is set to become the first Tamil movie to release in IMAX.

On Tuesday, August 16, Lyca Productions announced that Ponniyin Selvan will be released in IMAX.

The post read, “Grand gets Grander! Experience #PS1 in IMAX, the first Tamil film to come out in IMAX!In theatres on 30th September!#PonniyinSelvan #ManiRatnam #ARRahman @madrastalkies_@LycaProductions@arrahman@tipsofficial@Imax (sic).”

The film, which is based on a classic novel written in Tamil by Kalki Krishnamurthy and takes place in the 10th century, centres on the early life of Chola Prince Arunmozhi Varman, who later became known as the great Chola emperor Raja Raja Chola and was the most powerful king in South India at the time. The novel was originally written in Tamil. He is famous for restoring the dominion of the Chola empire and ensuring that it maintained its superiority in Southeast Asia and the Indian Ocean.

The cast has a number of well-known actors and actresses, including Chiyaan Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Karthi, Jayam Ravi, Trisha, Aishwarya Lekshmi, and Sobhita Dhulipala, amongst others.

The movie Ponniyin Selvan is scheduled to be released in theatres on September 30 in the following languages: Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada.
