Man involved in fake loan racket arrested by EOW

New Delhi, Aug 28 (IANS) The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Delhi Police has arrested a man identified as Amit Bartaria, who is accused of being involved in a fake loan scam amounting to more than Rs 23 crore.

In 2019, the Hinduja Leyland Finance Ltd had filed a complaint with the EOW that Amrit Mann (DSA), Nilanjan Majmudar (sales manager) and Nitesh Kumar (reporting manager) were supposed to source genuine proposals of applicants seeking loan against property (LAP) from the complainant company.

It was alleged Amrit Mann, who ran a sales agency, FUNDWIZZ, along with Nilanjan Majmudar, had sourced deals from companies seeking loans against properties.

As there were regular defaults in repayment of these loans and after visits to the sites, it was revealed that the addresses as well as the particulars of the borrowers were false. A case was filed after an inquiry.

“During investigation it was found that the accused persons hatched a conspiracy and picked such properties whose actual owners had expired. They impersonated the actual owners and created forged property documents to obtain the loan from the financial institution,” said Joint CP, EOW, OP Mishra.

After investigation, Amrit Man and Nilanjan Majummudar were arrested and are presently in judicial custody. Now a third person named Amit Bartaria has been arrested in connection with the case.

During investigation it was revealed that fake documents of properties have been used for obtaining the loans. It was also revealed that in some cases, a sale deed was registered from the actual owners on the basis of post-dated cheques.

“The accused was arrested from Ghaziabad and has been remanded to police custody. Further investigation is on,” said the officer.
