Malayalam lyricist Bichu Thirumala passes away

Renowned Malayalam lyricist and poet B Sivasankaran Nair, who was popularly known as Bichu Thirumala, passed away on Friday in Thiruvananthapuram. He was 80 years old. Bichu Thirumala was admitted to the private hospital due to breathing issues and later suffered a heart attack. His health condition worsened and he was put on ventilator support.

Many have condoled the death of Bichu Thirumala, including Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.

“Sad to know about the demise of Shri #BichuThirumala, noted lyricist & poet whose melodies penned over three decades enthralled all sections of people alike. My heartfelt condolences. May his soul attain Mukti,” read a condolence message posted on Kerala’s Governor Shri Arif Mohammed Khan’s Twitter account.

B Sivasankaran Nair AKA Bichu Thirumala started his career as a lyricist with Bhaja Govindam in 1972. He was born in 1942 and went on to become one of the most successful lyricists in Mollywood. He won Kerala State Film Awards twice for his work in Thrishna, Thenum Vayabum, and Kadinjool Kalyanam.

Bichu Thirumala worked with stalwarts like Ilaiyaraaja, AR Rahman, V Dakshinamurthy, MS Baburaj, G Devarajan, K Raghavan, Ouseppachan, and several others.
