Jhajjar stays safe despite proximity to Delhi, Gurugram

Gurugram, April 15 (IANS) Despite proximity to Delhi and Gurugram, considered as sensitive zones, Jhajjar is one district in Haryana that has no coronavirus case. It’s also significant as over 400 Covid-19 patients from Delhi have been admitted to Jhajjar AIIMS, located near Badli on the Gurugram-Jhajjar state highway.

Jhajjar District Magistrate Sanjay Joon attributed it to strict following of lockdown norms by the locals. “The residents of Jhajjar have also applied old-age practice of ‘thikri pehra’ in their localities to avoid coronavirus infection.

“The awareness and sensitivity of the people have played a huge role in keeping the district in safe zone,” Joon said.

The ‘thikri pehra’ is similar to the ‘janata curfew’ on March 22, announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Listing the district administration’s efforts to contain Covid-19 infection, Joon said all the grocery stores, vegetable shops, hawkers and milk distributors were identified and registered with the control room.

These registered people were issued passes and their mobile numbers were also disseminated to every house by way of mapping. Also, the grocery and vegetable vendors of the district have been classified into 306 groups and collective passes been issued for their work-related movement, he said.

The district administration has set up 24 shelter homes in Jhajjar, Beri, Bahadurgarh and Badli and accommodated 1,200 migrant workers, including children and women, during in the first phase of lockdown, said the Jhajjar District Magistrate.
