India Vs Bangladesh 1st Test match: BCCI announces update on Team India for the Test series

Indian skipper Rohit Sharma has been ruled out of the upcoming 1st Test between Team India and hosts Bangladesh, the BCCI confirmed on Sunday.

India’s all-format captain sustained an injury on his left thumb during the 2nd One Day International (ODI) against the Litton Das-led side. The veteran Indian opener missed the third and final ODI of the three-match series between the two teams due to the same injury on Saturday.

“He has been advised of appropriate management for this injury and will not be available for the first Test against Bangladesh. The BCCI Medical Team will take a call on his availability for the second and final Test at a later stage,” BCCI said in a statement.

Meanwhile, in his absence, KL Rahul will lead the squad while uncapped batter Abhimanyu Easwaran will replace him in the squad. 27-year-old Easwaran has played 78 first-class matches so far, scoring 5576 runs at 45.33.

Two other names missing from India’s squad are Mohammad Shami (shoulder injury) and Ravindra Jadeja (knee injury). Both players have failed to recover in time and have been ruled out of both Tests.

Navdeep Saini and Saurabh Kumar have been named as replacements for these players. India has also drafted fast bowler Jaydev Unadkat into the 17-man squad.

India’s updated squad for Bangladesh Tests: KL Rahul (C), Shubman Gill, Cheteshwar Pujara (VC), Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant (WK), KS Bharat (WK), Ravichandran Ashwin, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Shardul Thakur, Mohd. Siraj, Umesh Yadav, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Navdeep Saini, Saurabh Kumar, Jaydev Unadkat.
