I am observing ‘Janata curfew strictly: Chidambaram

New Delhi, March 22 (IANS) Amid ‘Janata curfew’ and government announcing a complete lockdown in 75 district of the country, former Finance Minister P. Chidambaram has tweeted that “as desired by the PM, I am observing Janata Curfew strictly.”

But he cautioned the government that the economic crisis is looming large, and the government has to mobilise Rs 5 lakh crore.

The Congress tweeted the statment of Chidambaram: “To tide over the crisis, caused by a lock-down, and economic hardship, the government may have to mobilise about Rs 5 lakh crore. I am sure we can find this amount.”

“Prime Minister should not give the impression that things are under control and will be under control by these symbolic measures. Coronavirus does not respect moral armaments,” said the former Finance Minister in a tweet shared by the Congress.

The Congress has been advocating shutdown of Parliament. Party leaders while talking to media said that government should adjourn both the Houses.

All the state governments are set to issue orders allowing only essential services to operate in about 75 districts with confirmed COVID-19 cases.
