Hit by car, Delhi Traffic Police ASI slips into coma

New Delhi, Aug 18 (IANS) An ASI of Delhi Traffic Police has slipped into coma and is battling for his life after being hit by an Hyundai i20 car while he was on duty at a check-post in West Delhi’s Khayala area.

Delhi Police have registered an attempt to murder case against the driver of the car and a search is on. CCTV footages are being scanned along the route to nab the driver of the car.

“On August 17, ASI Mahavir from Traffic Police along with other staff was conducting checking of suspected vehicles at the police picket near Ganda Nullah, Raghubir Nagar. At around 5.30 p.m., he signalled one white i20 car to halt for checking. However, the driver sped up, hit ASI Mahavir and managed escape from the spot,” said a senior police officer.

According to the police, Mahavir suffered severe injuries and is under treatment at a hospital in Punjabi Bagh.

“A case under Section 307/186 of the IPC has been registered and investigation is in progress,” the officer said.

Earlier on July 25, in a fatal accident killed ACP Traffic Sanket Kaushik while he was managing traffic near the Rajokri flyover in Delhi.
