Gujarati movie Chhello Show is India’s official entry to the Oscars 2023

The Gujarati film Chhello Show, which is titled Last Film Show in English, has been selected as India’s official entry to the 95th Academy Awards.

The coming-of-age film has been directed by Pan Nalin. It features Bhavin Rabari, Bhavesh Shrimali, Richa Meena, Dipen Raval, and Paresh Mehta in pivotal roles.

Director Nalin Pan took to Twitter to react to the news of his film Chhello Show being India’s official entry to the Oscars. “OMG! What a night this going to be! Gratitude to Film Federation of India and thank you FFI jury members. Thank you for believing in Chhello Show. Now I can breathe again and believe in cinema that entertains, inspires and enlightens! @LastFilmShow1 #ChhelloShow #Oscars (sic),” he wrote.

‘Chhello Show’, revolves around a 9-year -old boy who resides in a remote village in India and his love affair with cinema. The film shows how the little boy spends a summer watching films from the projection booth.

Last Film Show (Chhello Show) had its world premiere as the opening film at Robert DeNiro’s Tribeca Film Festival in 2021 and has won multiple awards across various international film festivals, including the Golden Spike at the 66th Valladolid Film Festival in Spain, where it also enjoyed commercial success during its theatrical run. ‘Chhello Show’ will release in theatres on October 14 in India.
