Goa CM urges students in other states to begin formalities for return

Panaji, April 25 (IANS) Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Saturday made a public appeal to Goan students stranded in different parts of the country to contact the state administration to facilitate their passage home.

Sawant also said that he had written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah over repatriation of persons of Goan origin stranded in countries across the globe.

“Native Goan students who are currently in other states should write to the District Collector. We will give permission on a case-to-case basis,” Sawant told a press conference on Saturday.

“They will be kept in government institutional centres, once they are brought to Goa from other states,” the Chief Minister said.

Sawant said his government was concerned about the fate of native Goans, especially students and those who are on work visas, who are stranded overseas.

“We are concerned about students in foreign countries or those who are working abroad. I have already written to the Prime Minister and Home Minister about it. An SOP for their return is being finalised,” Sawant said.
