Four shelter home occupants test corona positive; sealed
New Delhi, May 8 (IANS) At least four occupants of a shelter home in Jhandewalan area of the national capital tested positive for COVID, with the administration sealing the shelter.
Speaking to IANS, an official said 29 people were tested from the shelter, after a caretaker was found having the infection.
“Out of the 29, four tested positive on Friday while reports of others are expected by Saturday. The shelater home is sealed and people have been taken to quarantine facilities,” the official told IANS.
The shelter home, situated in an RCC building at property No. 10788-89, Jhandewalan, has a capacity to house 70 people.
The caretaker of the ‘Shelter number-14’ tested positive on May 4, and about 55 people were staying there at that time.
“People were using common toilets and other facilities. After the caretaker tested positive, the shelter management also decided to test all those having the symptoms,” the official said.
This is the first of the cases where people staying in shelter homes were found positive.
Thousands of migrants from different parts of the country, who were stuck in Delhi due to sudden announcement of lockdown, are staying in shelter homes.
