Fear of contracting coronavirus increases during lockdown 2.0: Survey
New Delhi, April 23 (IANS) Number of people who are terrified that they might contract the deadly coronavirus has increased in the second phase of the lockdown, a survey revealed on Thursday.
A 21-day nation-wide lockdown was imposed across the country on March 25, which was further extended till May 3 in the wake of the viral outbreak which has wreaked havoc in the country.
According to the survey conducted by IANS-C-Voter, on the first day of the lockdown, 35.1 per cent people divulged that they or their family might get infected by the disease, but the percentage jumped on April 21 and stood at 41.2 per cent.
The rise in this percentage could be attributed to the steady increase in the number of positive cases and deaths in the country.
In the survey, the statement — I am afraid that either myself or someone in my family may catch the coronavirus — was put forth before people between March 16 to April 21 and their answers were sought.
The graph of percentage of people who believe that they might become affected shot up on April 1 and was docked at 45.2 per cent, a sharp rise from 36.8 per cent from March 31.
