Facebook Introduced New Safety Measures To Protect Athletes From Hateful DMs And Comments

Social media giant Facebook brings new features so that athletes can cope with hateful and abusive comments and messages to their platforms.
Facebook is now the largest social media company, having billions of monthly active users through Facebook and Instagram alone.
Both the platforms Facebook and Instagram both are two of the most populous social media platforms where people share their personal moments of life, celebrities stay in touch with their fans, and businesses expand their operations. But, in many instances, many people use these platforms to spread hate, abusive languages to celebrities and athletes.

To deal with the people using their platforms for bad practices, Facebook came up with some features to protect athletes from hateful comments and messages.
Dedicated Instagram account for athletes
According to a post, Facebook is launching a dedicated Instagram account for athletes in Tokyo. Besides sharing Facebook and Instagram’s best practices, These private accounts will allow athletes to send any query and report Facebook team.

Control on Instagram Direct
On Instagram direct, a new feature has been introduced, “Hidden Words.” When athletes enable this tool, the AI technology will automatically filter the direct messaging requests which contain foul words, emojis, and phrases.

Facebook and Instagram Comments Controls
This new feature will allow athletes to control people who can comment on their posts. Besides that, athletes can automatically hide offensive comments on Facebook and Instagram through the option in their privacy settings. In addition, athletes can add specific words, emojis, and phrases to block those hateful comments.

Blocking
Facebook and Instagram also bring features to blocking anyone. Athletes can block people from both platforms who are sending wrong and abusive messages and putting bad comments. Facebook is also taking further initiatives so that a person whose account has been blocked by the athlete, cannot contact that athlete with a new account.

According to Facebook, they will send notifications to the athletes to let them know about these newly added safety measures at the top of thief feeds.
As mentioned in the post, Facebook invested heavily in people and technology to identify the hate speech, abusive content on their platform. This year from January and March they have taken action on 25.2 million pieces of hate speech on Facebook, including DMs.
Besides the UEFA European Championship, Olympic, and Paralympic Games are to take place soon. Now, these new tools seem to minimize the hateful comment and DMs to the athletes.
