Covid-19 recoveries in Telangana cross one lakh-mark

Hyderabad, Sep 3 (IANS) The number of people recovered from Covid-19 in Telangana crossed one lakh-mark and the number of tests crossed 15 lakh on Thursday even as the state reported 2,817 new positive cases and 10 deaths.

The health officials said 2,611 people recovered during the last 24 hours, taking the total number of recoveries to 1,00,013. The state’s recovery rate improved further to 74.9 while the national average is 77.09 per cent.

The new cases pushed the state’s tally to 1,33,406. Of them, 92,050 (69 per cent) were asymptomatic and 41,356 (31 per cent) symptomatic.

Ten more people succumbed to the virus during the last 24 hours, taking the death toll to 856.

The health officials said the case fatality rate of the state is low at 0.64 per cent against the national average of 1.75 per cent. Out of the total fatalities, 53.87 per cent had comorbidities.

The number of active cases in the state stands at 32,537 including 25,293 in home/institutional isolation.

The authorities conducted 59,71 tests during the last 24 hours but there was no information as to how many of these were rapid antigen tests. The number of tests conducted in the state so far rose to 15,42,978.

According to a media bulletin issued from the office of the director of public health and family welfare, 26,869 primary contacts and 8,359 secondary contacts were tested during the last 24 hours. The results of 2,537 samples are awaited.

A total of 17 government and 35 private laboratories are conducting these tests while the state has 1,076 rapid antigen tests centres.

The samples tested per million population rose to 41,560. Officials say this is much higher than the daily testing target of 5,600 per day as per the World Health Organisation (WHO) benchmark of 140 per million per day.

Of the fresh cases recorded in the state, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) accounted for 452, down from 477 the previous day.

The number of cases also dropped in the state capital’s neighbouring Rangareddy and Medchal Malkajgiri districts to 216 and 129 respectively. Sangareddy, another district bordering the state capital, recorded 76 cases.

However, the cases in other districts continued to surge. Karimnagar recorded 164 new cases, Khammam 157, Nalgonda 157, Siddipet 120, Suryapet 116 and Warangal Urban 114.

Age wise Covid positive details show that 65.3 per cent of those tested positive were in the age group of 21-50 years. Officials said that 24.71 per cent are above 51 years of age. About 10 per cent were aged below 20 years.

Officials said 64.41 per cent of those tested positive were male while the remaining 35.59 per cent were female.

According to the media bulletin, out of 20,396 beds under government, 17,622 beds are vacant including 1,563 ICU beds.

The government added four more private hospitals to the list of hospitals treating Covid-19 in the state. Now a total of 191 private hospitals treating Covid-19 patients have 10,063 beds, out of which 5,593 are vacant.
