COVID-19: 5 more positive cases, Karnataka tally 606

Bengaluru, May 3 (IANS) Five more patients tested positive for coronavirus in Karnataka, taking the state’s tally to 606, an official said on Sunday.

“Five new positive cases have been reported since Saturday evening from across the state, raising its total to 606 till date, including 299 active cases, 282 discharged and 25 deaths,” a health official said in a statement here.

Of the 5 new cases, 3 are men and two women. Three are from Kalaburagi and two from Bagalkote in the state’s northern and northwest regions.

“Four of them are contacts of Covid patients under treatment in the state-run designated hospitals, while one patient is a Severe Acute Respiratory Infection (SARI) case,” the official added.

The southern state crossed the 600-mark when 12 new cases were reported on Saturday as two casualties took the virus death toll to 25.

Of the 12 cases, Bengaluru accounted for 4, followed by Tumakuru and Vijayapura two each and Bagalkote, Belagavi, Bidar and AChikkabalapura one each.

The Health Department has screened 1.4 lakh people for Covid at airports and seaports till date.
