B’luru, Mysuru zoos to be shut on Sundays in Unlock 2.0

Bengaluru, July 1 (IANS) Zoos in the city and Mysuru will be closed for the public on Sundays following the state government declaring complete shutdowns on Sundays from July 5 to August 2, an official said on Wednesday.

“There is an order for lockdown on Sundays, so we will be issuing an order for closing the zoo on Sundays,” Bengaluru Bannerghatta Biological Park (BBBP) Executive Director Vanashree Vipin Singh told IANS.

To compensate for the Sunday loss, the zoos will open on Tuesdays which is generally the holiday for all zoos, national parks and sanctuaries in Karnataka.

“Usually on Tuesdays, the animals are given rest and the staff also take their holiday,” she said.

Singh said the high number of Covid positive cases in Bengaluru is showing an impact on the number of visitors to the zoo.

Similarly, the Mysuru Zoo will also be shut down on Sundays, an official confirmed.

As part of Unlock 2.0, which kicked off on Wednesday till July end, Chief Secretary T. M. Vijay Bhaskar has ordered that there will be a complete lockdown on Sundays.

Currently, Bengaluru is grappling with the highest number of Covid cases in Karnataka with 3,916 active cases.
