AAP decides to restructure party units before civic polls
New Delhi, Aug 4 (IANS) The ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Delhi has decided to restructure its units at the assembly, district, ward, polling centre and booth levels, senior party leader and Cabinet Minister Gopal Rai said.
The decision to restructure has been taken in view of the scheduled municipal body elections in 2022.
AAP’s Delhi convenor Rai said that the restructuring work will begin on Wednesday and will continue till August 20. He said, “The party will give new responsibilities to those who did well in the assembly elections held earlier this year. The restructuring work will start from Wednesday and will last for 15 days.”
The purpose of restructuring at the district, assembly, ward, polling station and booth levels is to strengthen the organization. Rai said, “We will review the work of our leaders at these five levels and then the party will take a decision. Those who did good work during the COVID-19 epidemic will be given new responsibilities.”
The Aam Aadmi Party lost the municipal elections in 2017. The BJP holds the corporation while the AAP is in the role of the opposition. In the assembly elections held this year, the AAP won 62 seats in the 70-member Delhi Assembly under the leadership of Arvind Kejriwal while the BJP got just eight seats. The Congress once again failed to open its account in the Assembly.
The Aam Aadmi Party wants to get the maximum seats in the corporation elections. For this, the process of strengthening the party at the booth level is being started. Apart from Delhi, the party also wants to establish a foothold in other states.
