A housewife has died in a fire in East Midnapore, West Bengal

A housewife named Mamata Sau (19) was burnt to death in Mandar village of Ramnagar police station in East Midnapore district.

She was married just two months ago. Police have arrested her husband and mother-in-law in the incident. According to the police, the names of the arrested are Madan Sau and Basanti Sau.

The housewife died in a house fire on Wednesday. Neighbors ran to the spot but they could not saved her. She died on the spot. Upon receiving the news, the police recovered the body. The housewife’s father’s house is in Orissa.

After the incident, the people of the housewife’s father’s house lodged a complaint with the police. They said that after a few days of marriage, Mamata was physically and mentally abused by her family members including her husband and mother-in-law on various pretexts. Unable to bear the constant torture, Mamata poured kerosene oil on her body and set it on fire. Based on the allegations, the police filed a case. They were arrested on Wednesday. According to the police the detainees were taken to Contai sub-divisional court on Thursday. The judge remanded the her husband in police custody for three days in the interest of investigation. On the other hand, the mother-in-law was ordered to be kept in jail for 14 days.
