6 Essential Points To Know About IVF Treatment

In vitro fertilization or IVF treatment, is a new way technique available that has totally revolutionized the possibilities of pregnancy.

It is getting more and more common since it started in 1987. Around more than 8 million babies have been born using the IVF or some other assisted reproductive technology. But IVF isn’t a fully flawless plan yet. Though it is revolutionary, this process can be complicated and confusing to some.
The IVF works for couples who are not able to conceive their kids. The reasons behind the same could be a lot, including –

  • Damage to the fallopian tube.
  • Male infertility.
  • Diminished ovarian function.
  • Age-related infertility.
  • Genetic diseases

IVF works better when you’re younger:

IVF is a better choice of getting pregnant if the woman is under the age of 35 years old. Usually, it is often talked about in context of the women over 35-40 trying to conceive, but just like all the things are related to fertility, the chances of a woman getting pregnant with IVF are better if they are younger. The success rates start to decline after the mid-thirties. IVF doesn’t change how the eggs are produced by the ovum. And the families need to understand this fact.

Start by doing a fertility test:

Whether a woman wants to get pregnant now or wait for a while, it is always a good idea to know where the fertility stands. Checking your fertility is now not a difficult task at hand. There are a number of centers that offer cheap at-home hormonal test kits. These can help the family to understand if the fertility levels are up to the mark.
In most of these tests, a measure of the levels of anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) is done. This is a good indication of the ovarian reserves, as in how many eggs are still present in the ovary. When a woman is older, their level of AMH reduces, thereby indicating that the fertility levels are low. Retesting yourself periodically is advised. If your AMH test shows a reduction in the level of AMH over a couple of months, talk to your medical provider about it.

IVF isn’t always the first available option:

Many families think that IVF is the only option for them. But the reality is that many fertility setups initially advise the families to try with natural methods of getting pregnant. If the couple is in the age group of 30 to 35, they should try for at least six months and if it’s not working, then you do a workup towards an IVF.

Important Things To Know About In Vitro Fertilisation

Even after trying and failing with natural methods, the doctor first will most likely try oral or injectable fertility medication before IVF. In some cases, the doctors also take into account the potential genetic disorders that the family might face later.

It is not cheap:

Everyone has heard that IVF is an expensive procedure. The cost for the treatment is high and the entire package comes up high. The package rates for IVF run about $9,000 to $10,000, while the medications can be $2,000 to $4,000. So mostly the families are looking towards an estimate of around $12,000 overall. This is a big amount of money to be spent initially for anyone who is planning to start a family. Later, there are more expenditures that include genetic tests and others. The IVF treatment cost in India depends on the age of the woman, and the type of facility the family is going to.

IVF requires a lot of patience:

IVF treatment does not work right away. It is one of the biggest misconceptions but the reality is that most women will end up needing to do more than one cycle of IVF to get pregnant. The average is about two to three cycles for most of the women. Even if the technology has improved over the years, the IVF treatment doesn’t necessarily change the egg for the woman. Otherwise, there are many genetic factors that a doctor cannot control. Most IVF failures cannot be controlled by the couple, even if the woman has good health, diet, and is fit. However, an important factor for IVF procedure to be successful is the age of the patient.

It does not have a 100% success rate:

It is also important to know that it’s not a 100 % successful procedure. The process can take time, money, and an emotional toll on the family. There is a significant drain from the emotional end of the families, who are planning to get pregnant with IVF. The doctors usually advise undergoing counselling for couples, and keep their mental states up to the mark.
