Fake call centre racked unearthed in Gurugram, 2 held
Gurugram, Aug 11 (IANS) Gurugram police has unearthed another fake call centre racket in the city’s upscale DLF Phase 2 and arrested two owners, an official said on Tuesday.
Those arrested are Amit Dhanda living in Sector 82 and Saurabh Chaudhary living in U-block of DLF Phase 3.
The police said the accused used to dupe US citizens on the pretext of providing technical software support and gift cards. The accused failed to present the necessary documents and permissions required to run the call centre.
Last week, the CM Flying Squad and Gurugram police had jointly unearthed a call centre operating on the Sohna Road.
A police team headed by DLF City ACP Karan Goyal raided house number 4/19 in ‘N’ block of DLF Phase 2 and found nine male and female employees busy interacting with clients in English in a fake American accent.
“We gathered all employees and two supervisors sitting in a cabin and asked them to show relevant documents but they failed to do so,” Goyal said.
“During brief questioning, the accused revealed that they posed as employees of US-based ‘Best Boys’ company to provide technical solutions in computer applications. In a bid to convince the customers, they offered gift cards and received payments in US dollars,” the ACP said.
“The accused told police that they were former employees of an Information Technology solution company and knew how to dupe people by exploiting the loopholes in this sector. They had set up a call centre called ‘Tech Support’ three months ago,” Goyal said.
“We have seized three CPUs and sent these for detailed technical analysis at our Cyber Cell. Besides, Rs 1.45 lakh in cash was seized from their possession. Further investigation is on,” the police officer added.
