Due to the pandemic, people are staying at home more. It has been more than a year already since people from all over the world were encouraged to stay indoors. Because of this, the clear line between a homey and work-related environment has blurred. With people doing nearly everything at home, right from working, studying, doing chores, and bonding with the family, homes should have a peaceful ambiance that will stimulate relaxation.

One of the things people associate with coming home the most is the thought of relaxation. Different rooms of the house are supposed to prompt different feelings but the overall atmosphere of the house should be relaxing. If this is not possible, then at least reserve a nook meant solely for peace and quiet. Interested in creating a relaxing space in your home? This is also for home buyers who want to redesign their new homes.  Read on and happy redecorating!

Tidy the space:

It is impossible to clear your mind in a messy space. Clean up the place and declutter as much as you can. Get rid of unnecessary junk and knick-knacks that have no purpose. Be honest with yourself when deciding which items can be kept and which should be thrown out. If you regularly use an item, then it is fine if you keep it. Make sure that your space is always neat to promote tranquility.

Paint the walls:

Color is an essential part of creating a relaxing space. Steer clear of vibrant and warm hues as these have a psychological effect of keeping the mind active. If the goal is to create a calming spot, it is best to stick to neutrals and cool tones like white, cool gray, brown, beige, blue, green, and pink. Pick a maximum of three colors to use to spruce up your space. Any more than that will do the opposite of creating a calming effect. Do the same thing for the furniture and other accessories that you are planning to put in your space.

Open the windows:

Let the light in. Make use of natural lighting to brighten up your space. This does not only help make your space look more beautiful, but it also does wonders for your well-being. Sunlight can improve your mood and make you feel calmer. Letting the sunlight in and opening the windows can also ensure that you live in a mold-free home as it prevents the humidity level from shooting up.

Pick a wall art or two:

It does not matter whether it’s a painting, a minimalist art, a word, a quote, a photograph, or an abstract image. What matters is that when you look at it, you feel soothed. Avoid choosing loud designs and colors as this promotes the brain to be active. Choose a size that is just right for your space and does not take up too much of the wall. Stick with a simple frame that is wooden, black, or white to keep a minimalist look. You can also opt for unframed wall art to create a carefree vibe.

Get indoor plants:

Bring some life and a little bit of nature into your room by putting indoor plants in your space. This may be big potted plants like pothos and snake plants or small succulents and cacti. Not all plants are necessarily high-maintenance and require constant care. You don’t even have to have a green thumb to manage a few low-maintenance potted plants. Consider the amount of sunlight your space gets though because most plants need to be exposed to as much sunlight as possible.

Make use of scents:

Aromatherapy can help set a relaxing mood and provide various health benefits. You can use either a scented candle or a diffuser to give your space an air of serenity. It also does a lot to complete the

sensory experience the place provides. Do steer away from overly strong scents as this can cause headaches and make you feel uncomfortable. Instead, go for soft scents like lavender, tea tree, rose, and chamomile. Be mindful of your allergies as some of these scented products can trigger them.

Include soft accessories:

Accentuate your hard furniture using pillows, soft rugs, velvety pillowcases, and a cushioned sofa. Creating a snug space that induces relaxation and produces serotonin is best. Don’t just go for aesthetic pieces that look soft and cute. Make sure that you will also be comfortable using it. Toss in a few pillows and a chunky blanket for maximum comfort.

Place interesting books:

Surround yourself with books that are not work-related. This can be coffee table books, comics, magazines, novels, or self-help books. Steer clear from books that will trigger you to think about work or anything that might cause the slightest hint of stress. You may use it for decoration but it is better if you take the time to read the books you have in your space. Reading books is an amazing way to make yourself avoid using your gadgets and entertain yourself in your nook.
