3 more who returned from Bengal test positive: Goa Minister

Panaji, May 16 (IANS) Three persons out of seven who had returned to Goa on Friday, after visiting West Bengal’s South 24 Pargana district, have tested positive for Covid-19, Health Minister Vishwajit Rane said here on Saturday, adding that a second round of tests were being carried out for reconfirmation.

Rane said, that the seven persons, all working professionals had gone to West Bengal last month and had returned by road.

“Seven people had gone from Goa on April 21, mostly profesionals who had gone to deliver barges in Kolkata. They stayed in Gangasagar which is a green zone. On May 3, they were taken to some other place by boat and then subsequently they had reached Goa on Friday morning,” Rane told reporters.

“During pool testing carried out at the Mollem border check post yesterday, out of seven, three of them tested positive. All seven had been kept in institutional quarantine,” the Health Minister said.

After the trio tested positive, they have been shifted to the state’s designated Covid-19 hospital, while the four other persons continue to remain in institutional quarantine.

With the three fresh cases — which are yet to be reconfirmed — on Saturday, the total count of active Covid-19 cases in the state has reached 11.
