3 deaths take Bengal Covid-19 toll to 15

Kolkata, April 21 (IANS) The coronavirus death count in West Bengal went up to 15 on Tuesday with the Bengal audit committee confirming three more loss of lives due to the disease in the state.

The number of active cases rose to 274 with 29 fresh cases reported on Tuesday, Chief Secretary Rajiva Sinha told mediapersons at the state secretariat Nabanna.

“The death figure has increased by three. The audit committee has found that three more deaths are related directly to Covid-19,” he said.

The fresh cases were reported from Kolkata and its surrounding districts 24 Parganas (North), 24 Parganas (South), Hoghly and Howrah, besides Nadia and West Burdwan.

So far, 73 people have recovered fully in the state. In nine districts, not a single coronavirus case has been found.

According to Sinha, with 713 tests in the past 24 hours the cumulative number of tests has risen to 6,182. Of the 74 samples tested at the new Corona lab at Malda Medical College Hospital, all were found negative for Covid-19.

Sinha said 33,305 people were under home quarantine, and 5,016 in institutional quarantine. Around 28,000 people have been arrested for breaking lockdown norms.
