2-Week Complete Lockdown In Guwahati From June 28

Due to the rapid growth of COVID-19 cases, the Assam government has announced a 14-day complete lockdown in the Kamrup Metropolitan district from Monday.

Guwahati, which is the part of the district, will also witness strict lockdown norms. Meanwhile, the urban areas in the state will witness a complete shutdown over the weekend.

According to the report, state health minister Himanta Bishwa Sarma, while making the announcement, urged the citizens to finish their shopping by Sunday like next week, only medical shops and hospitals will remain open in this lockdown.

Sarma further announced that the Urban areas falling under the jurisdiction of town committees and municipalities will follow the weekend lockdown.

The minister further announced that a 12-hour night-curfew starting from 7 pm till 7 am will also be observed across the state from Friday. However, emergency services, banks, and air/rail travel with tickets will be allowed until further notice.

Going by the latest updates from Union health ministry, Assam has recorded a total of 6,321 cases of Coronavirus to date. Of these, there are 2,279 active cases and 4,033 patients have been discharged from hospitals and nine people lost their lives due to the deadly disease.
