15 new cases in Delhi’s Tughlakabad, takes area’s tally 53

New Delhi, May 2 (IANS) A major hotspot is emerging in South East Delhis Tughlakabad with 15 new patients of COVID-19, taking the tally to 53. Speaking to IANS over the phone, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South East) R.P. Meena, said, “15 new cases have been tested positive for COVID-19, their samples were taken earlier but the reports came in today itself. The said persons are already under quarantine.”

Meena said initially three people, including a general shopowner, were tested positive, following which community sampling was done and 35 persons were tested positive for coronavirus.

The samples of the 15 persons were collected during the same time however; the reports of the same came in yesterday evening. With the new cases, the total number of Coronavirus cases in the area has finally touched the mark of 53.

The earlier outbreak was reported on April 19 as at least 35 people from a containment zone in Delhi’s Tughlakabad Extension were tested positive for coronavirus.

The administration had sealed Gali Numbers 26, 26B, 27 and 27B, Tughlakabad Extension in the South-East district on Friday after three people were found with the infection.

According to official sources, samples of close to 100 people in the area were tested after the COVID patients were found.

At least 94 people who came in their contact were home-quarantined.

“Samples of all these people were taken and 35 tested positive, taking the total count of infected to 38. Others have been tested negative,” the official said.
