15 health workers test positive for corona in 2 MCD hospitals

New Delhi, May 8 (IANS) A gynaecology doctor of Hindu Rao Hospital tested positive for coronavirus, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (North) said on Friday. The gynaecologist is from Hindu Rao Hospital, according to MCD (North) Commissioner Varsha Joshi.

The report of the gynaecologist came yesterday evening, Joshi said.

She said there are at least 6 doctors of the hospital who have been tested positive so far. “Contact tracing, sanitisation, and all subsequent actions have already been taken,” said Joshi.

The North MCD Commissioner said, “Till today, 10 healthcare staff in Hindu Rao Hospital and 5 in Kasturba Hospital have tested positive. Contact tracing is done and they have been quarantined.”

She said necessary sanitization at both the hospitals have been undertaken.

“Also on the basis of negative reports received earlier, the period of home quarantine of 46 personnel has ended and they have been asked to report back on duty,” said Joshi.

According to the Union Health Ministry data, the national Capital has reported 5,980 cases of COVID-19, of which 1,931 people have been cured, but 66 people have lost their lives.

With a surge of 3,390 new cases and 103 new fatalities, the total tally of coronavirus cases in India stood at 56,342 on Friday. Of the total cases, 37,916 are active while 1,886 people have lost their lives. A total of 16,593 people have recovered as India undergoes the third-phase of the nationwide lockdown.
