Unlisted Videos On YouTube Would Be Private Unless Creators Take Action

Creators would require to take action on their unlisted videos, uploaded before January 1, 2017 otherwise, YouTube will make them private.

According to Google, they rolled out a security update back in 2017 that generates new unlisted video links. Through the update, the unlisted videos links are harder to find for the viewers, if you don’t share the video link with them. Now, YouTube is making changes to that.

Creators can check whether their videos are being affected by this new change or not. To see the affectation, they need to first visit the YouTube Studio app. Then to the videos section there. After that visibility and check the unlisted videos. There they can check the date if any are before January 1, 2017.

If any creator takes no action to the unlisted videos uploaded before the aforementioned date, Google will private those videos starting from July 23, 2021.

There are options creators can adopt to deal with this.

Doing nothing

If creators find that there is no issue with the videos on the date, they can do nothing the videos will be private. In that case, any link that was previously used to embed to any website or somewhere will no longer be available.

Keeping videos unlisted

If someone chooses to remain the videos unlisted and not letting them privately they can opt-out by filling a form. By opting out their legacy links will still be in action but they won’t get the benefits of the latest security update.

Re-uploading the videos as unlisted

If any creator wishes to leverage the benefit of their latest update without making them listed they can re-upload those videos. However, creators would be able to move their videos to the public anytime.

In case any YouTube creator misses the given date, they can still change the video from their YouTube Studio anytime.
