Tokyo Olympics: Indian men’s hockey team beats Argentina by 3-1, and enter into quarterfinals

Indian men’s hockey team on Thursday defeated defending champions Argentina by 3-1, and booking a quarterfinal berth in the Tokyo Olympics.

Varun Kumar, Vivek Sagar Prasad, and Harmanpreet Singh scored for India, while Maico Casella scored a 1-1 equalizer for Argentina. This is India’s third win in four matches in this year’s Olympics.

After defeating Argentina, the Indian men’s hockey team has joined the top 2 teams in its group.

The Indian men’s hockey team had made a strong comeback in the previous match after losing to Australia. However, after this defeat, today’s match saw some aggressive play by India, raising expectations from the Indian fans.

With the third victory, the Indian Hockey Team has gained the second position in Group A with 9 points. Australia is top with 12 points after winning all four matches. Spain, New Zealand, and Argentina have 4 points each. However, in terms of goal average, Spain is third, New Zealand is fourth and Argentina is fifth. Hosts Japan are in the last place with one point from 4 matches.
