Netflix’s ‘Squid Game’ becomes the first non-English show to earn Emmy nomination
Netflix’s popular show, the South Korean drama ‘Squid Game’, has become the first non-English series to be nominated for multiple Emmys.
As per the report, ‘Squid Game’ earned a total of 14 Emmy nominations, including for the Outstanding Drama Series.
Star Lee Jung-jae got a nod for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series, while Jung Ho-yeon was nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series. Park Hae-soo and Oh Yeong-su both received nods in the Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series category.
‘Squid Game’ was released in 2021 to record-breaking numbers. It became the most-watched Netflix original worldwide for Netflix.
The nine-episode series tells the story of a group of desperate people who sign up to play mysterious children’s games in the hope of winning a hefty cash prize. They risk their lives for KRW 45.6 billion prize money. In the series, 456 people from all walks of life are invited to play a series of games that have life-threatening consequences.
