Maruti Suzuki Alto Retains India’s Bestselling Car Crown

Maruti Suzuki Alto has been crowned India’s best-selling car for the 16th consecutive years in a row, the company said on Monday.

It was first launched in September 2000 and became India’s best-selling car for the first time in 2004.

In November of 2019, Alto had become the only car in India to breach the 38 lakh unit mark. Form to date, over 39 lakh units of Alto have been sold with approximately 1.50 lakh units over the past year. “Alto’s unrivaled journey has enabled mobility for the new and young India and has turned millions of dreams into reality,” said Shashank Srivastava, Executive Director (Marketing and Sales), Maruti Suzuki India Limited.

“The strong customer base of Alto is a testament of customers appreciating the timely upgrades and refreshment in the brand. As well as, ” Alto continues to appeal to customers across the length and breadth of the country, with 76% customers choosing it as their 1st car,”

According to the company, the Alto has the option to opt for India’s first entry-level car and factory-fitted CNG version to become loyal to the BS6. As well as this it has added new features with the latest crashes and more to comply with pedestrian safety rules. These include driver-side airbags, ABS and EBD, reverse parking sensors, high-speed warning systems, and seat belt reminders for both drivers and co-drivers.
