Kargil Vijay Diwas: PM Modi and President Murmu pays homage to Kargil war heroes

Today, (July 26) India is observing the 23rd anniversary of ‘Kargil Vijay Diwas’ which commemorates the country’s victory over Pakistan in the 1999 war.

On the ‘Kargil Vijay Diwas’, Prime Minister Narendra Modi Tuesday paid his tribute to all the valiant sons of the nation who have served their country by defending the motherland.

“Kargil Vijay Diwas is a symbol of pride and glory of Maa Bharati. On this occasion, my salute to all the brave sons of the country who have accomplished their valor in the defense of the motherland. Jai Hind!,” PM Modi wrote in a tweet in Hindi.

President Droupadi Murmu on Tuesday said ‘Kargil Vijay Diwas’ is a symbol of the extraordinary valor of the armed forces, and people will always be indebted to the brave soldiers who laid down their lives to protect Mother India.

“Kargil Vijay Diwas is a symbol of extraordinary bravery, valour and determination of our armed forces. I bow to all the brave soldiers who laid down their lives to protect Mother India. The country will always be indebted to them and their family members. Jai Hind,” Ms. Murmu said in a tweet in Hindi.

The Indian Armed Forces defeated Pakistan on July 26, 1999. Since then, the day is celebrated as ‘Kargil Vijay Diwas’ to rekindle the pride and valor of the soldiers who took part in Operation Vijay. The day marks the victory of Indian soldiers in recapturing the mountain heights that were occupied by the Pakistani Army on July 26, 1999, known as the Kargil War.
