Earthquake Of Magnitude 7 Hits Papua New Guinea, Tsunami Risk Fade

At 8.20 am on Friday, the island of Papua New Guinea was shaken by a devastating earthquake. The quake had a magnitude of 7.0 on the Richter scale.
The US Geological Survey said the quake’s epicenter was 18 km east and east of Papua New Guinea. The epicenter was reported at 65.2 km below the ground. However, no casualties have been reported so far in the quake. But the magnitude of the tremors is expected to cause damage.
The administration has issued a tsunami alert in the coastal area due to the strong tremors. A warning has been issued within 300 km (186.41 miles) of Wau in Papua New Guinea’s northeast. Fishermen have been banned from going to sea on this day.
Within a week, the islands shook violently. On that day, the level was 5.4 on the Richter scale. No damage was reported due to moderate tremors that day. The aftershocks have spread panic among the island’s residents.
