Chittaranjan Locomotive Works Hits New Bench Mark In Terms Of Loco Producing
The Locomotive Works, situated in West Bengal, is one of the biggest loco producing hubs for Indian Railways has created another record of making 250 electronic locomotives in just 180 days.
Rail Minister Piyush Goyal has Twitted this and stated it as yet another “Make in India” success story.
As of now, it is the highest number of produced locos in 180 days, but it is not the first time CLW (Chittaranjan Locomotive Works) creates a record. In 2018-19, the CLW had created a Limca Book Of Records for producing 402 electrical locomotive, which was the highest production record in the world.
By making the 402 locos in 2018-19, they had surpassed their own record of producing 350 locos in 2017-18.

Last year, Railway Ministry announced corporatization of production units of Chittaranjan Locomotive Works, Asansol, Diesel Locomotive Workshop at Varanasi, Integral Coach Factory, Chennai, and Air-Conditioned Coach Factory at Kapurthala. According to a report, the Government would merge seven railway factories, including Chittaranjan Locomotive Works, to a single company and then sells its entire stakes to the corporate eventually.
As compared to 2018-19, the Chittaranjan Locomotive Works has taken 29 working days less to produce the same number of engines despite the Covid-19 lockdown period in April- May.
