Alibaba founder Jack Ma suspected missing, Netizens ask the reality on social media
Chinese billionaire and Alibaba founder Jack Ma have been mysteriously vanished from his own reality show after criticizing China’s regime.
Jack Ma did not appear in the final episode of his own talent show, Africa’s Business Heroes. UK’s Telegraph reported that Alibaba founder was supposed to be a part of the judging panel in November final but he was replaced by an Alibaba executive.
A spokesman for Alibaba said: “Due to a schedule conflict Mr. Ma could no longer be part of the finale judge panel of Africa’s Business Heroes earlier this year.” Surprisingly, Jack Ma’s picture was also removed from the website.
In his speech, Ma heavily criticized the “pawnshop mentality” of Chinese banks and accused them of slowing down innovation.
When Chinese president Xi Jinping heard about the remarks he personally ordered the suspension of the public offering, according to the Wall Street Journal.
A $37billion public offering of his company Ant Group was suspended after he made the speech.
Days later, China unveiled new antitrust rules which hugely devalued the company, before regulators conducted an anti-trust probe into Ant Group.
Ma is one of China’s wealthiest men and is also well known for his work with the UN and multiple global charities.
During the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, he has donated tens of millions of face masks across the world.
However, in recent weeks there has been no activity on his Twitter account – which usually carried several tweets a day.
Notably, Ma’s last tweet was on October 10, 2020.
On the other hand, this incident has made a big question around the world. Particularly Netizens have started posting on social media against the Chinese Government and their activities.
Taking a dig at ‘Jack Ma respected missing’, Jeff Booth the Entrepreneur, Tech leader and Author of ‘Price of Tomorrow’ has tweeted, “I sincerely hope that Jack Ma is okay, but this video is just another example of what happens when you concentrate too much power in the hands of the state and remove/diminish freedom of speech.”
