Alia Bhatt’s Gangubai Kathiawadi vs RRR clash averted; film to release on Feb 18

Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Gangubai Kathiawadi and SS Rajamouli’s RRR were slated to hit the theatres on January 6, 2022. To avoid a clash at the box office, the makers of Gangubai Kathiawadi announced that the film has been pushed to February 18, 2022.

Releasing a statement about the same, the makers stated, “We are glad to announce that Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Gangubai Kathiawadi has a new release date. Produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Dr Jayantilal Gada (Pen Studios). The film will release on 18th February, 202”. Although the reason behind this change in dates hasn’t been stated.

Alia Bhatt-starrer Gangubai Kathiawadi is a biographical crime drama based on Hussain Zaidi’s Mafia Queens of Mumbai. Ajay Devgn will play a pivotal role as Karim Lala in Gangubai Kathiawadi.

Director SS Rajamouli welcomed the decision of Gangubai Kathiawadi team. He took to Twitter to thank the team and wrote, “The decision by Mr. @JayantilalGada and Mr. #SanjayLeelaBhansali to move the release date is well appreciated. Our heartfelt wishes to #GangubaiKathiawadi..:) (sic).”

SS Rajamouli’s RRR is a mega-budget film starring Jr NTR and Ram Charan in lead roles. Alia Bhatt and Ajay Devgn have been roped in to play pivotal roles in the film.
